doesnt matter, cause hundreds of others wouldnt and everyone would have high end armor/fow armor and perfect gold weapons with every skill.
even with self control its still cheap the account still wont feel like the one you played through for many hours.
I have used private servers for closed down mmo's trust me they have alot worse peopel then a normal game, and theres still bots. someone would have to have no life in order to run a server as well as an offical one

No I wouldn't.
I played Lineage 2 on a private server, and it was just one huge character-masturbation fest, insane amount of gold drops, god like weaponry sold dirt cheap, everybody can trick out their characters in less than a week... and the game becomes boring so quick, you'll forget that it was even an online game. In the end you'll just end up with a server with everyone wearing the same god damn elite armor with the same god damn elite weapons with the same god damn elite build.... whats the point?

Private Server would need quite a powerful machine to keep it from getting crashed.

for an example of good private servers, check out the uogamer servers for ultima online they host 3 different servers to highlight different key points in the game's lifetime, and it all works really well.

If someone good could set up a PvP server, with real community input and no carebears who ruin balance, and custom maps, then I'd see it being used quite a bit.

No; I play GW because of the community, farm so that I'd have something to show off to other people, hang around in the GH or elsewhere because of the people I know and have befriended. I've tried other games on private servers, and I know there's no real incentive to keep playing after you've got all the elitest of the elitest equipment, be it modded/haxored or hack&slashed with rates of over 9000. Not to mention the total lack of maintenance and moral. A private server could be fun as a personal playground, but it'd get boring before long.

Yeah I would like it as a personal playground, or move my alliance people over. Be great to play PvE pre all the nerfs over the years.
The potential for real PvP would be great as well.

If I had the power to remove factions + prophecies and revert the game back to march 2006, I would.

I think it would be pretty boring. The community for the server would be so small it wouldn't be fun. It would be like a low end live server, ok...enough joking it would just suck.

I've co-run a WoW server for about 12 months and the stress is seriously not worth it. There's an excess of hackers and griefers and everybody is always bitching about something.
That said, a GW server for me and a few RL friends would be awesome. I'd love to play around with armors and weapons and casual HoH against my friends.

Definitely no to a private online server.
Definitely yes to a locally installed single-player with heroes and hench or an 8-24 player LAN. Couldn't care less about PuG's or online PvP, i play in groups with RL friends so an offline / LAN GW would suit me fine.

Yes I would want the ability to do world building if the Anet servers decided to make GW 1 abandonware... However I highly doubt that will be the case...
I mean look at teh WoW beta back when they had a world builder system... It was fun but there were lots of bugs in it... It has vastly improved over the years yes, by the hands of good fan coders... But they are illegal non the less. both to run and to play on. so Don't go messing with them unless you never plan to return to the pay to play realms...
In GW we do not have that particular problem. BUT... if anet did decide to stop serving GW1 say 10 years down the line in favor of keeping GW2 active, and maybe GW3 by that time... Well yea of course people would expect to have someplace to use their GW1 product on. so yea I would be all for it absolutely. I would bet Arenanet would be too if it meant they could move on by that time to bigger better things with the franchise.
